'Once upon a time' world best tennis player Bjern Borg expressed in Spanish sports newspapers 'Marka' his belief that Novak Djokovic will soon overthrow Roger Federer from #1 position: 'It's obvious that Novak will become world #1 soon'.
Winner of 11 Grand Slams added that Novak is not the only one contending for the world #1 position: 'When you see him play, you see he shines out great open-heartiness and huger for victories', said Bjern who ended his career at the age of 28.
Bjern said that imititations that Novak makes are of equal quality to Novak's good tennis play, added: 'I wouldn't mind Novak imitate me one day as well'.
And this is what the World #1 himself, Roger Federer, had to say in interview given in Miami this week: 'I know that Novak wants my throne and for now he is on his best way, but I am still not for „old iron“. I’ll fight despite illness that is bothering me in my quest to stay at the throne as long as possible.
Roger: 'I am surprised just how much Djokovic has gotten serious on court. He is playing phenomenally; and that he is at the moment the best in the world, is indicated with big tournaments, where he en-route beat Nadal at Montreal and Indian Wells, and myself at Montreal and Melbourne'.
Roger: 'Djokovic has all to become my successor, but I also have ambitions to remain no. 1, and there many other tennis players who also want my spot. In any case, I sincerely congratulate Novak on his successes, and I am eagerly looking forward to our next meeting so I could get my revenge (sporting meaning)'.
